What happens when you mix a supernatural drama with a mystery thriller? Well, that’s what you get with Attack on Titan 16.5A Wall Sina, Goodbye OAD (Part 1). Although Eren Jaeger is the main character of the Attack on Titan series overall, Annie Leonhart is at the center of the story told in Wall Sina, Goodbye.
I just finished watching part one and it’s reminded me of all the reasons why Annie was a character that stood out to me back in Season 1. From her calculated ability to fight, to her stoic personality; Annie gives a lot of people reason to notice her in a show where several characters play major roles in the progression of the main story. What I really like about this OAD is that it gives Annie a side that we haven’t been able to explore before, and that’s her human side.
The timeline of which this story takes place is important because right off the bat we see that Annie, Reiner, and Berthold play a huge part in Marco’s death. Although part one of the OAD doesn’t focus heavily on what exactly happened, we do get to see how the aftermath of it all has affected Annie in her day to day life, which brings me back to her human side. Annie isn’t the coldhearted and potentially crazy person she’s been portrayed as in Season 1. It turns out, she is able to feel guilt, shame, and even has the desire to help others. She’s just more monotonous about it. This OAD story is fantastic because it takes the best qualities of Annie and lets them shine in the spotlight.
It’s the day before the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission and Annie gets assigned a job to find a missing person named Carly Stratmann who is the daughter of a wealthy man by the name of Eliot G. Stratmann. Part one of the OAD focuses on Annie’s battle with anxiety due to Marco’s death while also finding clues to what happened to Carly. Normally I find myself getting bored if there’s too much talking going on in a show, but the interrogation scenes were so interesting. I really liked how it shows off Annie’s intelligence as she pieces together the details that’ll hopefully lead her to the truth. And I say “hopefully” because I have no idea how this story is going to end.
Unfortunately, only part one is available to watch right now. Part two will be released on April 9, 2018 and then the final part will be released on August 9th. After watching part one, you’re going to be mad that we have to wait that long. But, it’s all ok because 2018 is going to have a lot of Attack on Titan. Season 3 officially begins airing in July! 😆✌🏾
So, I did my best to not give away any spoilers, but hopefully I said enough to get you interested in watching the OAD. It’s definitely not a typical Attack on Titan episode and I think it stands alone very well. So definitely check it out down below! P.S. Happy New Year!!
