In this episode, we learn about Monarch Douglas Bank, which houses money filtered by some of the world’s worst criminals, including Berlin. Agent Keen and Agent Ressler discover a woman named Kaja Tomczak, who has an incredible photographic memory that’s allowed her to memorize every single bank account existing within the bank. She is taken into custody, but not without a fight from Agent Salerno, which turns out isn’t even his real identity. Red steals Kaja from Agent Keen and attempts to use her as incentive to get Naomi back from Berlin.
“Revenge isn’t a passion. It’s a disease that eats at your mind and poisons your soul.” – Red to Berlin
After the successful switching of Naomi for Berlin’s money, Liz reveals that she allowed the money transfer to take place. Her job is to protect Red, but she forcefully verbalizes that what futures lives Berlin takes, is on Red and not on her. We later learn that Samar Navabi Mossad (Mozhan Marnò) gives secret in-depth files to Harold Cooper in return for joining the task force. But by the end of the episode she makes a call to Red in which she tells him that she’s looking forward to working with him.
So unfortunately Berlin is still alive, but that just means future terrors are to come. Red expressed in this episode that he did not kill Berlin’s daughter (which I totally believe). So the question remains, who did? Is there someone worse than Berlin? I guess that’s to be assumed since Berlin is #8 on the blacklist. We also learned in this episode the name of Red’s daughter, Jennifer. It’s possible they’ve said it before, but I only noticed it today. I thought it was cool to see Mr. Kaplan show a little more emotion towards Red. They clearly go way back and even she was not happy with how Red was going about searching for his wife. Berlin was right in saying that Red is blinded by his passion for the ones he cares for. I think we’ll be seeing a more vulnerable side of Red especially now that Berlin has made a connection between Red and Agent Keen. With Samar joining the task force, I’m looking forward to seeing how she shakes things up from the inside.
Side note: Something is going on with Agent Ressler and them pills. Calling it now.
“Hear that? That’s the sound of your checks bouncing.” – Red to Berlin
